This Data Protection and Privacy Statement relates to information supplied by you on this Web Site and through any of your dealings with us. Standard Chartered Bank, and each of its subsidiary, affiliate, branch and representative office with whom you deal, the Data Controller ("SCB" or “we/our/us”), respect the privacy of your personal information and will treat it confidentially and securely, even when you are no longer our client.  We will use, store or otherwise process your information in accordance with applicable data protection laws.

Any personal information provided by you to SCB will be used for the purpose of providing and operating the products and services you have requested and for other related purposes which may include updating and enhancing SCB's records, understanding your financial needs, conducting credit and identity checks, reviewing credit worthiness and assisting other financial institutions to conduct credit checks, advising you of other products and services which may be of interest to you, for crime/fraud prevention and debt collection purposes, for purposes required by law or regulation, to plan, conduct and monitor SCB's business and for all ancillary purposes including security, computer, telecommunications and technology services.

The information collected from you by SCB will be valuable in improving the design and marketing of our range of services and related products for customer use. This provision will not alter or affect any information otherwise provided by you to SCB.

Other than to those individuals and entities listed below your details will not be revealed by SCB to any external body, unless SCB has your permission, or is under either a legal obligation or any other duty to do so. For the purposes detailed above, your information may be disclosed to:

other branches,representative offices or companies in the SCB Group (ie. SCB, its subsidiaries and affiliates);

Internet Communications

In order to maintain the security of our systems, protect our staff, record transactions, and, in certain circumstances, to prevent and detect crime or unauthorised activities, SCB reserves the right to monitor all internet communications including web and email traffic into and out of its domains.

In some cases, the recipient of your information may be based in countries that offer a higher or lower level of data protection from your home country.  However, we will ensure that parties to whom your information is transferred agree to protect your information and store and process it in a secure manner. 

In common with other banks, we have to process payments to and from your account(s) through other entities including other banks and operators of financial payments systems.  These entities may process or store the payment information in other countries whose laws and regulations require disclosure of the payment details, including names and addresses and other sender and beneficiary details, to governmental and regulatory authorities for the purpose of fighting crime and terrorism. 

If relevant, you represent and warrant to us that you have all the necessary and relevant permissions of all relevant individuals to carry out the processing of their information that this Clause contemplates.

Your information will be retained by us for so long as there is a business need to hold the information or as required by legal, accounting or regulatory requirements or to protect any Standard Chartered Group Member’s interests.

You may have the right under data protection legislation on payment of a fee to request access to personal information about you held by us and to have it corrected where appropriate.
