Q: Please give us a brief description of your previous role(s).

Standard Chartered acquired Grindlays Bank in 2001 and I joined Standard Chartered as part of that acquisition. At the time I was managing our discretionary and investment product range. In 2004, I took on a role in Compliance. Standard Chartered (Jersey) Limited was part of the global launch of Private Banking and I now act as the Country Head of Compliance in Jersey.

Q: What made you join The Standard Chartered Private Bank?

I would list the following in no particular order:

  • The ability to travel and meet new people from different cultures and backgrounds
  • The ability to develop and grow both personally and professionally
  • Highly varied career opportunities
  • A Bank that is going places. It is dynamic and has clear goals
  • The people: A great feeling of team spirit and a collective drive to succeed
  • Our Values. More than just five words they have real meaning to people´s approach to their daily lives and contribute substantially to a really enjoyable working environment.

Q: What positive experiences have you had since joining the Private Bank?

The collective drive to build a great business is amazing. We have such an engaged team all striving to deliver and it is a great feeling to be part of such a team. It really makes you want to go that extra mile. It is not all about financial reward, engagement is key.

I have had the opportunity to travel to the Middle East and Asia. Standard Chartered Bank truly is International, in terms of its network and the diversity of its people.

Q: In joining The Standard Chartered Private Bank, what professional opportunities were made available to you that may not have available in your previous role(s)?

Standard Chartered is committed to training and talent development. I have had the opportunities to grow in my role, and have taken a number of professional qualifications. People are the ‘life blood’ of the business and Standard Chartered Bank recognises this. You are not just a number in an office. The Bank is alive with career opportunities, and you are encouraged to develop as an individual.

Q: What advice would you give to colleagues who are looking to change roles across functions / geographies?

Embrace these opportunities to learn and grow and broaden your horizons, and work with people from diverse cultures. You´ll benefit from these as an individual and professionally.

Q: How do you see the future with The Standard Chartered Private Bank?

It´s exciting and challenging. We are part of a team that is shaping the business.
